It’s Time to Begin Planning Next Year’s Ithaca PDD!

It’s not too early to begin planning the Ithaca Branch’s Professional Development Day for 2019. Come volunteer to work on a committee and help us plan the best one ever! Bring your ideas and your energy. You can have some fun, network with fellow Ithaca Branch members, build your resume, earn PDUs, and help the Branch! We would love to have you. To volunteer, contact Paula at [email protected]

Do You Believe in Magic?

You must if you are an Ithaca Branch member and you have not volunteered! It takes volunteers to help the Branch run. People make the meetings happen. People help members track their PDUs. People identify speakers. People plan the networking events. There is so much more that we could be doing, but we need you! We have a number of open positions that we will be soliciting for. You’re a “people” so please consider stepping up. Watch for coming announcements or contact Paula at [email protected]

The Ithaca branch grew from a group of project managers from Cornell University that started meeting in 2009. What began as a special interest group expanded into a regional group of project manager professionals. As the group matured, a decision was made to pursue a formal relationship with PMI to better serve the region in support of the Project Management practice.

With help from the PMI Rochester Chapter President, the chapter by-laws were amended to include Ithaca as a formal branch of PMI Rochester. The move has proven beneficial to members and the community alike, as it expanded the possibilities for valuable programs, as well as provided our members more opportunities for involvement in PMI activities (also helping our PMPs receive PDUs).

Since the branch was formalized in early 2011, we’ve grown from approximately 15-20 PMI members to a high of 88! (as of early August 2018) Our membership reaches all over the Finger Lakes region, as well as across diverse industries, from manufacturing to medical care to higher education. We are particularly proud of the fact that the number of members with the PMP certification has risen from 16 to 30. We welcome anyone from around the Ithaca region that is interested in project management to get involved! For more information, contact Paula Wedemeyer, VP of Ithaca Branch, at [email protected].
