Walking In Others' Shoes - Online
Event Description:
Developed by the SAGE ACT Regional Network, the Intersectionality Walk helps us to understand how a person’s multiple identities can compound advantages or disadvantages.
Participants assume realistic, multifaceted personas in simulated work-based scenarios in the Walk. Each persona has characteristics from vulnerable or minority population groups, for example, their gender, age, socioeconomic status, cultural background, disability, and sexuality.
The Walk provides a powerful way for participants to visualize how intersectionality plays out in real-life situations. In addition, by experiencing workplace scenarios in an assumed persona, participants can more easily empathize with the experiences of others. Finally, participants will have an opportunity to discuss the challenges of moving away from siloed approaches to work and identify opportunities to incorporate the needs of all constituents in their work.
Learning Objectives:
- Discover a person's multifaceted personas
- Learn the challenges of moving away from siloed approaches to work
